Let’s Give You Something To Talk
About…
Did you know that the term burlesque
first came to wide usage in the
sixteenth century in a Serio-Comic
Opera by Francesco Berni who called
his works “burleschi”.
The Harlettes use their creative
minds and talents to design and make
all their own costumes.
Chesty LaRue is responsible for the
choreography and training of over
150 original Harlette dances
including the Werewolf Trio, our
Monster Mash, Snake, Do your duty,
Shake a Tail Feather and many many
more.
At one time the Canon theatre (now
the Pantages Theatre) was known for
its love of hosting vaudeville and
burlesque shows.
Half of the Harlettes have our logo
tattooed somewhere on their body.
The rest of them can’t decide where
their tattoo should go.
In Toronto, only performers with
exotic entertainer licenses can bare
all on stage … the loophole: no
license necessary for members of the
audience!
Breezie LeFleur, host of the
Harlettes has been interviewed for a
variety of newspapers, magazines and
radio shows including one of
Canada’s most read newspapers the
National Post, Much Music Top Ten
and the Comedy Networks Pop
Cultured.
The Harlettes have been interviewed
and documented for a CBC One radio-
doc starring them!
Many women’s studies and political
science majors over the years have
contacted the Harlettes to assist
with their thesis papers using our
expertise and opinions along with
other troupes to complete their
degrees.
The Harlettes have performed in over
100 private & corporate functions
within the last three years –
including Cancer benefits, Mayworks
Festival, Tsunami Relief, various
Ryerson and University of Toronto
fundraising events, and various
other charitable organizations.
The Canadian Oxford Dictionary of
Current English defines burlesque as
a comedic imitation; a variety show
often including striptease; or
without being so wordy –the
Harlettes.
